Kernville, CA

At approximately 8:40 a.m. today, the Kern County Fire Department received calls for a plane crash at the Kernville airport at the 10000 Block of Sierra Way in Kernville. The first arriving units encountered a plane that had crashed and was on fire. The plane had 2 occupants who had both escaped the plane prior to fire crews arrival. Crews aggressively attacked the fire and it was brought under control in less than an hour. The 2 occupants were evaluated. It was determined they were not injured and released. The plane is a total loss. The airport is currently closed to air traffic and will remain closed while the FAA investigates. Crews will remain on scene for a few more hours for mop up. There were no injuries to fire personnel. The cause is under investigation.
