Southbound I-5 at Truck Bypass, CA
Shortly before 1:15 p.m. today, the Kern County Fire Department was notified of a grassfire burning on the westside of I-5 at the truck bypass. First arriving crews encountered burning grass on the west side of Interstate 5. In all, 15 firefighters from Kern County aggressively attacked the flames and stopped the fire's progression in a little over 30 minutes. The fire is presently 90% contained. Crews are remaining on scene for a couple hours to extinguish hot spots. The cause of the fire is believed to be roadside work being conducted in the area. CHP is on scene due to smoke drifting across the freeway.
