Just after 7:45 a.m. this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a structure fire in a single-family dwelling in the 27,000 block of Elmo Hwy. A reinforced structure response was started. The first arriving crew encountered a 1500 sq. ft vacant farm house that was 30% involved with fire throughout the attic. Fire crews deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire and initiated a search. Interior personnel were forced out by a collapsing roof. A defensive attack was initiated and the fire was contained in 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene another 3 hours for overhaul. The fire is believed to have been started by a vehicle that was close to the building. The vehicle was believed stolen and abandoned. It is under investigation by CHP.
