Structure Fire - 4000 Block of Alken Street, Rosedale

Just before 11:00 AM this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a hazardous condition in the 4000 block of Alken Street. Engine 66 arrived on scene with a Southern California Gas Company representative already on scene. Crews found that a 2 inch natural gas line had been ruptured due to digging operations for the placement of cable lines. Crews isolated the area and notified law enforcement for assistance with the evacuation of a business that was in close proximity to the leak. Fourteen (14) employees of the business were evacuated.  Other businesses in the area were notified of the hazard. Firefighters remained on scene as a precaution until the leak was controlled shortly after 1:30 PM.

ASSISTING AGENCIES: KCSO, Southern California Gas Company

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind the community to call 811 before digging. In addition, when gas lines have been marked by the Utility company, the gas line should be identified visually before using machinery in close proximity.
