At 10:12 p.m. this evening the Kern County Fire Department working in coordinated effort with the Bakersfield Fire Department responded to a structure fire in 2300 block of Carl Lane in Bakersfield, CA. First on scene crews found an approximately 1500 square foot residential structure with heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the house. Presuming residents inside, firefighters began searching the home while extinguishing the fire. A roof collapse shortly after fire department arrival prevented crews from further searching the home. At that time, crews continued fighting the fire from the exterior bringing the fire under control without it spreading to nearby residences. The firefighters were able to confirm that all occupants had escaped prior to arrival. The cause is under investigation. Two people were displaced due the fire. There were no injuries sustained to firefighters or civilians.
