Just before 4:00 PM, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a brush fire one mile south of Poso Flat Road, east of Snow Saunders Road. First arriving crews found approximately 25 acres of burning grass on a hillside with a rapid rate of spread. Firefighters are working to control the perimeter of the fire. Ground crews have been supported by retardant drops from four air tankers and water drops from two helicopters, including KCFD Helicopter 408. No structures have been destroyed and none are immediately threatened. The fire has grown to approximately 100 acres in size. Two Strike Teams of Hand Crews from Cal Fire (approximately 60 firefighters) are en route to assist. One Strike Team is responding from Tulare and the other from Ventura. They will assist with strengthening containment lines and mopping up hot spots once containment has been achieved. At this time, the fire is approximately 20 percent contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Updated acreage and details to follow.
