Just before 10:45 this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received calls for a motor-home that had exploded at an East Bakersfield RV Park. Callers advised that there were people inside of the RV and that it was on fire. Locals attempted to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers. When firefighters arrived, they encountered two patients that had exited the structure. Crews treated the patients on scene and extinguished the fire. Both adult patients were transported by Hall Ambulance to San Joaquin Community Hospital. The female suffered moderate burn injuries while the male suffered major injuries including burns and trauma. The two patients were inside the RV when it exploded. The RV is a total loss of approximately $40,000. Surrounding cars and RVs sustained approximately $20,000 in damage. KCFD Fire Investigators are attempting to determine the cause of the explosion. Kern County Environmental Health arrived to monitor for flammable gases. The KCSO Bomb Squad was requested to examine the damage and assist in cause determination.
