The KCFD received multiple calls for a brush fire threatening several homes. Crews arrived on scene to find a fully involved garage, trees, and brush on fire, started by sparks from a chain saw being used to cut up some logs. A reinforced alarm was initiated since the fire was being fueled by winds and dry grass. A few moments later crews were faced with numerous spot fires on about seven homes in the area with wood shake roofs. A couple of officers from the Bakersfield Police Department and California Highway Patrol evacuated residents from some of the homes with burning roofs and proceeded to get up on the roofs with garden hoses and help knock down the fires. Crews will be on scene for several hours performing overhaul operations. Grass clearing in an adjoining lot helped control the spread of the fire from causing more damage. Seven homes, a barn, and two out buildings sustained damage. There were no reported injuries.

Additional Information: The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind folks to use extreme caution when working with power tools in dry areas. Tools and vehicles can create sparks, causing a fire to start. Please be sure to clear dead, dry grass and woods from around all structures and out buildings.
