Structure Fire - 6300 Block of Victor Street , Bakersfield

Just after 6:00 AM this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for the smell of smoke in the 6300 block of Victor St. First arriving crews encountered a multi-unit apartment complex with smoke showing from one ground floor apartment. Fire crews deployed a hose line to extinguish the fire and to protect the adjacent units. Upon entry, the team discovered one resident on the floor of the bedroom in respiratory distress. A rescue was initiated as well as a reinforced structure response. The patient was removed from the structure, given medical aid and transported by Hall Ambulance to San Joaquin Community Hospital. The fire was controlled in approximately 20 minutes. Damage to the structure was limited to $2,000 and approximately $2,000 in contents. Crews saved the rest of the structure valued at over $150,000.  The cause of the fire is under investigation
