Beginning of Open Burning Announced

The Kern County Fire Department is pleased to announce that open burning of hazard reduction fuels will begin on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. We are actively monitoring fuel moisture and weather conditions. If necessary for public safety, burning may be put on a temporary hold. Residents should stay alert for updates.

All individuals planning to burn must obtain a burn permit, burn only on permissive days, and adhere to all rules and recommendations outlined in the burn permit terms and conditions.

Instructions for obtaining a burn permit are listed below.

If your burn location falls within SJVAPCD boundaries, visit Cal Fire’s Burn Permitting Application where you can apply online. For individuals desiring further assistance, call 1 877 HAZ BURN (1-877-429-2876).

Eastern Kern Air Pollution Control District:

If your burn location falls within EKAPCD boundaries, visit Kern County Community Connect where you can apply for your burn permit online. For individuals needing further assistance, EKAPCD may be contacted at (661) 862-5250.
