BAKERSFIELD, Calif., The Kern County Fire Department is excited to announce the expansion of our services within Kern County. On January 12, 2025, Medic Squad 42 made its debut, joining two other successful Medic Squads to become the third of these specialized units within the department.
A permanent addition to Station 42 in East Bakersfield, Medic Squad 42 will be staffed by a Firefighter Paramedic and a Fire Captain. This response area experiences an exceptionally high call volume, well over 5,000 calls annually. The addition of an Advanced Life Support (ALS) crew, 24 hours a day, will enhance the KCFD’s ability to provide high-quality pre-hospital care while also ensuring that the surrounding stations remain available for additional emergencies.
A new Medic Squad vehicle is currently being prepared. However, until it is ready, we will use an older Battalion Chief vehicle to respond. This allows us to immediately provide this additional service to the community without delay.
The expansion of Medic Squad 42 is made possible by Measure K, which has enabled the KCFD to increase our ALS staffing by 13 paramedics. These highly trained individuals strengthen our ability to provide advanced medical care to the unincorporated areas of Kern County.
