BAKERSFIELD, Calif., On October 2nd, 2024, at 1:47 p.m. Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of an aircraft down in the area of Hageman Rd. and Knudsen Dr. The crash site was in a large field directly across the street from the Olive Drive Fire Training Facility, shared by KCFD and Bakersfield Fire Department. BFD firefighters were training at the facility and immediately responded to assist. On arrival, firefighters found a crashed plane with a single occupant. While the victim was assessed for injuries and quickly extricated from the wreckage, additional firefighters secured the plane, accessing fuel shutoffs and disconnecting batteries. Crews carried the patient to a waiting ambulance to be transported to an area hospital. Thankfully there was no collateral damage, and no other injuries reported. The incident was left in the care of KCSO and will be investigated by the FAA.
