Open Burning to Close

KERN COUNTY, Calif., The Kern County Fire Department would like to notify all residents that Open Burning of Hazard Reduction Fuels will close, effective Monday, May 13, 2024. This decision has been made due to multiple factors including live fuel moisture levels. As the weather in Kern County heats up and relative humidity drops, vegetation will continue to dry out and become more susceptible to burning.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the defensible space guidelines:

♦   Provide a 30 ft. clearance of all non-ornamental combustibles and vegetation around ALL structures (This includes wood piles)
♦   Provide a total 100 ft. reduction of all non-ornamental combustibles and vegetation around all structures
♦   Provide a 10 ft. clearance of all combustible material around LPG and fuel tanks
♦   Provide reduction of excessive accumulations of fuel that can be deemed a fire hazard

A complete list of requirements can be found here.
