Planned Training Burn a Success

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., The Kern County Fire Department has concluded our “Wildland Hot Drills” in East Bakersfield. Training with live fire is a great opportunity to gain experience in a realistic but controlled emergency environment. This training exercise was a success as we ran nearly 200 firefighters through rigorous drills designed to teach them strategy and tactics in real world scenarios.

In all, 32 acres of tall, dry grass were burned over a period of 3 days.

The KCFD is grateful to the Bakersfield Fire Department, local public utility workers and the private landowners, all of whom made this possible. As a result of burning off these fields, residents of the adjacent community are safer, with a large buffer existing between them and the highway.
