The Kern County Fire Department will be conducting Public Safety Prescribed Fire Burns during the month of June.
-The “White Wolf” burn is located along Highway 223 between Arvin and Highway 58. It is scheduled to be completed Tuesday, June 13th, with ignition anticipated at 12 noon. The roadway may be closed intermittently over several hours during this operation, motorists are advised to take an alternate route.
-The Interstate 5 “Grapevine Flats” burn will be conducted on both sides of the interstate, between the Grapevine Exit and the Fort Tejon exit. Ignition date and time to be determined.
Both of these public safety burns will help prevent a fire from extending from the roadway into the surrounding wildlands. This protects the landscape and habitat from destructive, summertime wildland fires. Additionally, these burns will reduce the likelihood that the communities of Digier Canyon, Lebec, Stallion Springs, Bear Valley Springs, Keene, and Hart Flat will be exposed to wildfire. The Kern County Fire Department appreciates your support and cooperation to make these critical operations a success.
