KERN COUNTY, Calif., At the request of Governor Newsom, President Biden approved California’s request for a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration in support of storm response and recovery.
Kern County has been listed as an impacted disaster area within our state, and is now eligible for several federal assistance programs, including housing support, food aid, counseling, medical and legal services, as well as the provision of personnel and equipment to assist in the fortification of levees, clearing of debris and snow from roadways, medical support at shelters, and staffing support for local assistance centers.
Throughout the early months of 2023 until now, Kern County departments have worked diligently to provide needed assistance to residents amid historic winter weather. A critical component during this time has been the documentation of properties and individuals adversely effected, which has been done through online surveys and on-site damage assessments.
Today’s declaration for federal assistance in our community is the result of efforts made by county employees and partner agencies who have worked tirelessly to advocate for our impacted residents.
Now, Kern County residents and business owners who sustained losses can begin applying for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-462-7585 TTY.
