Christmas Tree Fire Safety

To help increase awareness about holiday fires in our community, the Bakersfield City Fire Department and Kern County Fire Department are coming together to conduct a “Christmas Tree Fire Safety Demonstration.”

Christmas trees account for hundreds of fires each year. Typically, shorts in electrical lights or open flames from candles, lighters or matches start tree fires.

-Water your Christmas tree every day. A dry tree is dangerous because it can catch on fire easily.

-Consider using battery-operated flameless candles, which can look, smell, and feel like real candles.

-Make sure your tree is at least 3 feet away from heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, space heaters, candles, or heat vents.

Media is encouraged to attend this year’s demonstration.
