BAKERSFIELD, Calif., on Saturday, March 26, 2022, Kern County firefighters responded to and extinguished a large residential fire at 8339 Buena Vista Rd. The fire cause was suspicious, and an individual was spotted on scene at the time of the fire. Members from the KCFD Fire Investigations Unit investigated and canvased the area with BPD for the suspected arsonist. The suspect, Marty Sias, was located and arrested on Sunday, March 27, 2022, by KCFD Fire Investigators.
On Wednesday, September 14, Marty Sias entered pleas of “no contest” to three felony arson charges brought by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. Under the terms of the plea, Sias will be ordered to serve 15 years in prison at his sentencing, which is currently set for October 13.
The successful apprehension and prosecution are evidence of the close working relationship between KCFD Fire Investigators and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. We are proud of the committed efforts of the KCFD Fire Investigators, and we are grateful for the full support of the District Attorney, as well as the Deputy District Attorney overseeing arson crimes.
