At 12:47 p.m. the Kern County Fire Department’s Emergency Communication Center received a call reporting a potential structure fire. Firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of Charlana Drive. The first arriving fire crew stated that smoke could be seen coming out of the open front door as well as attic vents. Kern County Sheriff’s Deputies notified arriving fire crews that all occupants had exited the building. Firefighters were able to enter the home and extinguish the fire in less than four minutes from arriving on scene. Damages were confined almost entirely to a bathroom. There were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind everyone to “Close the Door.” Damages to this home were greatly reduced due to the bathroom door being closed. When rooms are not being used or when evacuating during emergencies close the door behind you to reduce the spread of fire.
