Bakersfield, CA

At 2:32 p.m., the Kern County Fire Department Emergency Communication Center received multiple calls reporting a large area of grass on fire. First arriving fire crews found a vegetation fire spreading quickly toward multiple homes. Do to the rate of fire spread and threat to structures, recommended evacuations were made and additional resources were ordered. Aggressive use of air resources and ground crews quickly stopped the forward progress of the fire, allowing the evacuation notice to be lifted. Fire personnel were on scene for approximately five hours to reach full containment and extinguish hot spots. The Incident Commander noted a key factor in successfully protecting the homes was proper clearance of brush and grasses around the homes.
