Bakersfield, CA

At approximately 4:12 p.m. Friday afternoon, the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls of a vegetation fire in the area of Breckenridge Road and Tarina Court. With four fires burning in tough terrain, on a hot day in dry grass, first arriving crews began ordering more firefighting equipment and crews. Priority was given to protect a home in the path of one of the fires. Decisive actions by firefighters and proper hazard reduction resulted in the home being protected from the fast moving fire. Both ground and air resources were ordered to simultaneous attack the blaze. More than ninety firefighters were dispatched to battle the fire. Crews are making good progress on extinguishing the fire, but will remain on scene tonight and tomorrow to continue securing containment around the fire as well as performing mop up within the areas already burned. Forward progress of the fire has been stopped.

Evacuations: None

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind all residents living in high fire hazard areas to make sure they maintain the defensible space around their homes.
