Bakersfield, CA

The Kern County Fire Department received a report of a vehicle fire involving a semi truck on west bound Highway 58 approximately 1 mile east of General Beale Road. First arriving personnel encountered a tractor trailer fire, the trailer involved in 25% flames. Fire extended into the grass adjacent to the roadway and burned up a nearby hillside. Kern County Fire crews simultaneously took action on both the trailer fire and the grass fire, and were quickly able to extinguish both. Fire crews contained the grass fire to 2.5 acres, and the trailer to 50% while keeping it away from the tractor. The driver of the semi was uninjured, and no fire personnel were injured.

Additional Information: The Kern County Fire Department wishes to advise drivers to exercise caution on the roadway.  Steep grades present extra hazards to vehicles and the public.  Slow down and save a life
