Just after 4:30 this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a single wide mobile home on fire on 100 block of Roby Lane in Wofford Heights. A structure response was started by dispatchers. The first arriving crew encountered smoke and flames coming from a window and doorway. Neighbors told fire crews that the home was not occupied and the utilities had been turned off previously . Fire crews deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire. The fire was confined to the interior of the structure and no other exposures were threatened.  Damage was limited to the room of origin and is estimated at $20,000 with a saved value of $60,000. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Additional Information: The home did not have a smoke alarm. Fortunately, neighbors heard the fire and called 911. KCFD reminds residents to have a working smoke alarm. Test the smoke alarm monthly and change the batteries twice a year.
