Tehachapi, CA

At 2:40 p.m., Saturday , the Kern County Fire Department was dispatched to reports of a semi truck into the Love's truck stop on Tehachapi Boulevard. First arriving crews discovered that a semi truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 58 and had left the road at the railroad overpass.  The truck went between the elevated lanes of Highway 58 and ended up on the railroad tracks below, next to Tehachapi Boulevard. damaging both the bridge and the railroad tracks.  The rear section of the trailer was caught on the bridge above leaving the truck in an almost vertical position. One occupant was believed to be inside the truck.  Due to the extremely high difficulty involved with extricating the victim, both Kern County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) units specializing in technical rescue were requested to assist. The driver of the truck was determined to be deceased shortly after arrival.  Traffic on both directions of Highway 58 and Tehachapi Boulevard will be impacted for serval hours as one lane of Highway 58 will be closed by CHP in both directions while the truck is being removed. Environmental Health is also on scene due to a large amount of diesel spilled from the truck.
