On 9/01/17 at approximately 1:27 PM the Kern County Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the 7000 block of Jay Court. Upon arrival, crews were faced with heavy smoke coming from the attic of an 1800 square foot single family residence.  Quick actions by fire crews kept the fire to the structure of origin. A family of 4 was displaced by the fire and Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance. Crews saved 1 cat from the structure and one resident was evaluated for smoke inhalation but refused medical treatment.  A reinforced structure response was started due to extremely high temperatures, which provided needed additional personnel. The cause is under investigation. Loss to the structure was $75,000 with an approximate save of $250,000.
