Bakersfield, CA

At approximately 3:50 p.m. the Kern County Fire Department received numerous calls for a big rig on fire at west bound Hwy 58, one mile east of General Beale Road. When the first engine arrived on scene the cab of the big rig was fully involved and fire had spread to nearby grass. Crews worked together to extinguish the big rig fire as well as stop the forward progress of the grass fire. Crews were on scene for approximately 2 hours mopping up, while full containment of the grass fire was achieved and determined that 2 acres had burnt. 

Evacuations: None

Closures: West bound Hwy 58 was closed for approximately 20 minutes. One lane is currently open and all lanes are expected to be open by 6:15pm.
