Breckenridge, CA

At 2:53 PM, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a grassfire off of Breckenridge 2 miles East of Commanche Road. Kern County Fire crews arrived on scene to find an approximately 20 acre fire in grass with a moderate rate of spread. Initial size up reported possibly 6 structures threatened. A Task Force of Engines was requested for structure protection. The fire is currently at 1000 acres. No structures lost or injuries to report at this time. Will continue to update.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to make sure they maintain the required defensible space around their home. The Kern County weather is beginning to heat up and humidities are starting to drop, which is causing the vegetation to dry out and become very susceptible to burning.
