At 5:53 PM on Monday, the Kern County Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on the 300 block of Evans Road. The first-arriving firefighters reported smoke and flames from a single-family, single-story residence. Crews were also faced with a large detached garage fully-involved to the rear of the property. Additional engines were dispatched, as well as fire investigators.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire and no injuries to firefighters were reported. The fire completely destroyed the house and the detached garage--including the three vehicles parked inside. The loss is estimated at $400,000.
The cause of this fire is arson. Witnesses observed 2 male juveniles, 11 to 14 years old, in the area before the fire. Fire Investigators are asking the public to report any suspicious activity seen near Evans Road and the adjacent creek area, specifically from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday.
