At 2:47 this afternoon, The Kern County Fire Department received multiple reports of fire and smoke showing from a duplex in the 800 block of Sanders Street. A reinforced structure fire response was started. First arriving crew encountered a 1400 square foot duplex with heavy smoke and fire showing. Two residents were outside suffering from burns.
First arriving crews treated the burn victims and started fighting fire. The fire was knocked down in a short time, crews began an interior attack to completely extinguish any fire and start mop-up. Both burn victims were transported to Ridgecrest hospital by local ambulance.
The Red Cross has been contacted to assist three displaced residents. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Additional Information: The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to replace smoke detector batteries frequently. Smoke detectors save lives.
