At approximately 11:37 a.m. the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a fire in the 3500 block of Shell St. at San Joaquin Refinery. Crews arrived on scene to find a silo of asphalt with smoke and fire showing. Quick efforts by on scene refinery personnel nearly contained the fire by the time fire crews arrived. The use of the facility water monitor nozzles helped to cool and contain the fire. Upon arrival, fire crews pulled a hose line and finished extinguishing the areas that the monitors couldn't reach. CHP assisted with traffic control. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.
