At 2:22 PM, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a large wood pile on fire near a structure. When crews arrived on scene, the fire was burning a large wood pile and approximately 1/4 acres of grass and brush in a tree mortality area that was also threatening homes. Ground crews were supported by KCFD Helicopter 407 who was instrumental in assuring there were no spot fires starting due to the very high winds in the area. Crews were able to aggressively attack the fire by getting ground resources around the fire stopping the forward progress of the fire and holding it to 1/4 acres. Crews remained on scene for a couple of hours reinforcing the fire line around the perimeter while continuing to mop up within the fire.
