CALIFORNIA CITY, CA – Saturday February 20, 2010 at approximately 3:28 AM., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a structure fire at 9337 Eucalyptus way in California City. Approximately 14 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident, assisted by firefighters from California City Fire Department and Edwards Air Force Base.
Upon arrival, crews were faced with a developing fire in a two story, four unit apartment complex. The first arriving crews commenced an attack on the fire in unit B of the complex which quickly spread to the second story attic and the adjacent units. The apartment complex had no current residents and no one was found in the building at the time of the fire. The Fire crews began salvage operations by removing products from the damaged units, and checked the other units for any fire extension.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. Fire crews were able to save an estimated $150,000.00 to the structure and contents. However, the fire destroyed an estimated $200,000.00 in property and contents.
There were no reported injuries.
