RIDGECREST, CA - On Wednesday February 3rd 2010 the Kern County Fire Department was called to a structure fire at the Rose Garden Inn and Suites, in the 300 blk of Ridgecrest Blvd in Ridgecrest. Approximately 27 firefighters responded to the 2nd alarm incident, which included assistance from the China Lake Fire Department.
Upon arrival fire crews were faced with heavy smoke coming from a ground floor unit. Crews made an immediate and aggressive attack of the fire to suppress its development and spread. Firefighters, through their efforts were able to contain the fire to the room of origin and protect the surrounding units.
Firefighters were able to save approximately $1,500,000.00 in value to the hotel. However, the fire destroyed an estimated $45,000.00 to the room and its contents.
The cause of the fire was due to a room heater which ignited flammable materials in the bathroom. The female occupant evacuated from the unit prior to the arrival of KCFD, unfortunately she received a minor burn injury which was treated at the scene.
KCFD would like to take this opportunity to remind residents of the dangers of floor/room heaters and to keep them at least 3 ft from any potentially flammable materials.
